02 Oct I quit my 9-5 and refuse to get a ‘real job’
“So when are you going to get a ‘real job’? I heard that question or general remarks in that area so many times when I started ‘dabbling with words’ as a freelance copywriter. From the first time I quit a job at the age of twenty-one to go running off abroad and work, people have been asking me when I’ll settle into a ‘real job’. Even though my freelancing progressed into a fully-fledged copywriting and coaching business, and I’m a business blogger and published author, I still hear it occasionally. As if having a career isn’t really a job, like running a successful business is no guarantee or less stable than a 9-5.
Hopefully, those that matter will come around to the idea that this is your dream and you are going for it. Whether you’re a solopreneur or a business owner with people relying on you, it can still be scary owning a business. But for those of us brave (or crazy) enough to attempt it, it can be exhilarating, fulfilling, and life-changing.
My career has allowed me to do so many amazing things:
- I get to spend my days doing what I love – writing and helping entrepreneurs
- My flexible schedule means I can create my own social calendar
- I have time to volunteer – over 130 hours this year
- I’ve finished my second novel
- My clients encouraged me to write a business book
- Tick off more of my bucket list
- Create an incredible vision board for 2017
This month is my birthday! Happy Birthday to me…I love this time of year (except for the weather, I’ll always be a sun-worshiper).
Now, I’m off to pour some bubbly and celebrate…
