06 Jun Breakdown to Breakthrough!
Your business will eat everything you give it. Be prepared to watch your time, energy, money and everything else you give be chewed up and devoured by the hungry machine that is business as you try to hit your goals. The good news is it is your choice where you draw the line! You decide how much and that is the most important part.
Self-employment, entrepreneurial life, running your business, being the boss…whatever you want to call it, is nothing like a 9-5 job. You’re still thinking about it after you finish working for the day, you never really ‘clock out’, you’re time literally means money (or lack of) and the buck stops with you.
So introduce some rules just as your ex-employers did in your previous jobs. Some of the big players in business get up super early and fit in some exercise and time to read before they begin work. Personally, you’d have to drag me out of bed screaming before I’d consider getting up at 4am to do yoga and flick through pages of a book. I love doing both but not in the early hours so I fit my fitness and reading in at other times that suit me but the point is to find what works for you and stick to it.
I’ve worked with clients who had no schedule whatsoever and were just jumping on social media when they had a minute, checking emails randomly throughout the day (and night), had to work out their marketing budget as they were on the phone making an investment, and so on…that lack of organisation is getting you nowhere fast!
- Pay yourself first
- Set a (flexible) schedule
- Write down financial and business goals for the months/year ahead
- Break down targets into manageable chunks
- Review targets at set intervals
- Make time for yourself outside of work.
